As the English Content Director for Mentoring Advanced Programs for Students (MAPS), Dr. Johnston collaborates with teachers in grant schools to improve student performance in AP*. For 16 years, Dr. Johnston, as a College Board* consultant, has served as a reader and/or table leader for the scoring of the national exam. For thirteen years she has served as instructor for the Advanced Placement* Institute at University of Central Florida and has conducted College Board* summer institutes for Bellevue (WA) School District, University of California at Santa Cruz, and University of South Florida. In 2004, Florida Council Teachers of English presented Dr. Johnston with the Honor Award "for outstanding services to advance the teaching of the language arts." Dr. Johnston earned her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Sarasota, her M.A. in English from the University of Central Florida, and her B.A. in English and History Education from the University of Florida.
