Packard Takes Medalist Honors at Men’s Fall Classic

Final Results

Chris Packard

SPOKANE, Wash. - Chris Packard of Pacific Lutheran won medalist honors and defending team champion Linfield survived a hard second-day charge by host Whitworth to win the 2007 Northwest Conference Men’s Fall Golf Classic today at the Spokane Country Club.

Packard, a senior from Gig Harbor, won the individual medalist honors with a final total of 69-74 – 143, leading the co-runners up by five shots. Jordan Carter (76-72) of Whitworth and Tyler Nelson (73-75) of Linfield each shot a 148. Carter’s 72 was the best round of the second day. Packard is guaranteed a spot on the 2007-08 All-Northwest Conference team by virtue of his individual win at this event.

PLU's Adam Story, who entered the final day tied with eight golfers for third place after a first-round 75, shot an 82 on Monday, the 157 total good for 17th place.

In the team event, Linfield finished with a two-day score of 300-304 – 608. The Whitworth Pirates, who entered the day in fourth place, totaled 311-297 – 608. Pacific scored 308-303 - 611 to place third, followed by PLU at 314-305 - 619. Rounding out the team scores were Puget Sound at 63, Willamette at 661, Lewis & Clark at 684, Whitman at 697 and George Fox at 715.

Linfield now gains eight points toward the final NWC golf standings. The NWC Fall Classic counts 25 percent toward the final conference standings. The NWC Spring Classic will count 25 percent, and the end-of-the-year NWC Championships will count 50 percent.

Last season the Wildcats won the fall event, but were ultimately overtaken at the end of the season by the Pirates, who won their third straight conference title.
