SALEM, Ore. – Karin
Hatch of Pacific Lutheran won the javelin throw at
the Willamette Last Chance meet Thursday night with a NCAA Division
III national meet provisional mark of 128-9. Hatch’s toss
makes her the third PLU athlete to hit a provisional mark this season.
A sophomore out of Portland, Hatch is currently ranked 18th in
the nation. Official selections for the NCAA Division III Men's
and Women's Track & Field National Championships will be announced
on Sunday, May 18. The national championships will be held at J.J.
Keller Field in Oshkosh, Wis., from Thursday, May 22 through Saturday,
May 24.
Last season, Hatch was one of four PLU athletes who competed at
the national meet. Two of the other three athletes who competed
alongside Hatch at nationals last season will make the trip again
this year. Juniors Faven Araya and Taylor Hacker have both hit strong
provisional marks in their respective events. Araya is currently
ranked third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.14; while
Hacker is ranked sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 171-5.
