McGinn Earns AVCA Second Team All-America Honors

Kati McGinn - 2nd Team All-American
Gina Di Maggio - HM All-American

The awards continue to pour in for a pair of Pacific Lutheran University volleyball players.

Senior middle blocker Kati McGinn (Puyallup, Wash. / Puyallup HS), who earlier this week was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year, has been named a 2006 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Second Team All-American. Junior setter Gina Di Maggio (Olympia, Wash. / Tumwater HS) earned honorable mention All-America recognition.

McGinn and Di Maggio helped the Lutes reach the NCAA Division III national tournament where last night they lost a five-game opening-round match to the University of Redlands. PLU finished the season with a 20-7 record and as co-champions of the Northwest Conference.

McGinn led the Lutes in kills (396), attack attempts (1,217), service aces (41), and blocks (92). She also finished second on the team in kills per game (3.92) and third in digs per game (3.60). She earned AVCA All-West Region first team honors this season after making the honorable mention list in 2005.

Di Maggio averaged 10.85 assists per game and compiled 53 total blocks, an average of 0.54 per game. She earned first team All-Northwest Conference and AVCA All-West Region honors this season and was named the AVCA West Region Freshman Player of the Year and a first team all-region selection following the 2004 season.
