McGinn Earns AVCA Second Team All-America

The awards continue to pour in for a pair of Pacific Lutheran
University volleyball players.
Senior middle blocker Kati
McGinn (Puyallup, Wash. / Puyallup HS), who earlier
this week was named the Northwest Conference Player of the Year,
has been named a 2006 American Volleyball Coaches Association
Division III Second Team All-American. Junior setter Gina
Di Maggio (Olympia, Wash. / Tumwater HS) earned honorable
mention All-America recognition.
McGinn and Di Maggio helped the Lutes reach the NCAA Division
III national tournament where last night they lost a five-game
opening-round match to the University of Redlands. PLU finished
the season with a 20-7 record and as co-champions of the Northwest
Conference.
McGinn led the Lutes in kills (396), attack attempts (1,217),
service aces (41), and blocks (92). She also finished second on
the team in kills per game (3.92) and third in digs per game (3.60).
She earned AVCA All-West Region first team honors this season
after making the honorable mention list in 2005.
Di Maggio averaged 10.85 assists per game and compiled 53 total
blocks, an average of 0.54 per game. She earned first team All-Northwest
Conference and AVCA All-West Region honors this season and was
named the AVCA West Region Freshman Player of the Year and a first
team all-region selection following the 2004 season.
