PARKLAND, Wash. – Cheryl Burris and Melissa Buitrago each
scored a first-half goal and the defense notched a shutout as
Pacific Lutheran defeated visiting Cal Lutheran, 2-0, in a non-conference
women’s soccer match played Sunday afternoon.
The win was the first of the season for the Lutes, who improve
their record to 1-2-1. Cal Lutheran is now 0-3 this season.
Burris, a freshman forward making her first start, scored a goal
for the second straight game, and both tallies have come on headers.
Burris beat a defender to Buitrago’s cross from the left
side, and her header looped over Brittany Tippett’s head
and into the goal just 1:34 into the game.
Buitrago scored an unassisted goal at 23:34, running onto a loose
ball and cracking a 30-yard shot to the right of Tippett.
PLU had 14 shots to nine for the Regals, and both teams compiled
three corner kicks. Starting goalkeeper Amanda Tschauner made
four saves in 81 minutes, and Kamryn Morgan finished the game
in goal for the Lutes. Tippett and Kristin Borzi split the 90
minutes, with Borzi getting all three of the Regals’ saves.
