Lexie Miller has battled injury
the past two seasons but she hopes to put that behind her has
she enters her junior season. Miller has placed in the top five
for the Lutes at every meet this year.
What
were the major contributing factors in your decision to attend
Pacific Lutheran University?
I came to PLU for the engineering program mostly, but I also
liked the idea of being able to run through college. PLU being
a Division III school, I knew I could run without the pressure
of scholarships and such. Basically it came down to Whitman
and PLU, and PLU offered me the most financial aid.
Describe your family. How
have they helped you in your athletic career?
My dad was always really big on sports, so when I was little
he urged me to try running track. Both of my parents have also
been really supportive all my life with whatever I wanted to
do. I think my father rarely missed a meet in high school. They
encouraged me to try my hardest in everything, so I was always
inspired to work really hard and persevere through whatever
injuries came my way.
What has been your favorite class at PLU?
My favorite class was Religion and Literature of the Old Testament
because it was really different from any of the classes I have
taken for my majors (mathematics/computer science). Dr. Finitsis
made learning about the Bible really fun. It was probably the
only class where I kept up with all of the reading the whole
semester.
What are your plans after
college?
I have no idea. I hope to maybe work overseas for a while, but
I don’t know what kind of job I want to be doing.
Has it been difficult to
balance athletics with academics?
Not really. Running for me is like a study break. Everybody
needs a few hours a day away from the books.
When
your athletic career is all said and done, what is it that you
would want people to say about you?
I want to be seen as someone who always gave nothing less than
my best and was always there for my teammates when they needed
me.
Describe your hometown
and what do you miss most about it?
I am from Tacoma, but I guess I miss how quiet and friendly
my neighborhood is. I was shocked when I came to Parkland and
heard sirens every weekend. There isn’t a whole lot of
traffic either and the sidewalks are wide, so it’s great
for running.
What is your favorite restaurant
in Tacoma?
The Rock.
What music is playing in
your ipod right now?
A rendition of Fall Out Boy’s “Dance, Dance”
by the Angry String Quartet.
