Communication

Communication Varies

Communication is a necessity to survive

Types

There are so many forms of Communication now with the use of the latest technology.  Communication is always going to be  This text is styled to draw attention to important site information.

Electronic

You don’t even have to be on the college campus to take any courses in this day of age.  I took an internet course at Olympic College (the college that I transferred from) and learned the difference between communicating in person verses electronic.  There were several pros and cons to it but I found it to be quite a challenge, which I enjoyed.  Over all I still prefer taking classes in an actual classroom, as long as it works with my schedule; especially with several people who have jobs that tend to work better with internet courses.  You can even have class discussions over the internet not only by sound but also visual.

So in this era the internet has become a main source of information when conducting research, from writing assignments that are now typed on computers.  And now professors require Power Point class presentations.

One of my required foundation courses for my major was Computer 120.  We started working with excel, because it is important for practically any major or minor in college and computers are everywhere you go.  People need to have the basic computer skills in order to apply for a descent livable wage job; unless you tend to work as a blue-collared worker.  I was assigned to build a web page only using text coding (no website builders).  The objective of this activity was to demonstrate our competence in the use of the HTML coding and the structure that is involved.

Written

When I was a Communication/Recording Officer for “Beta Gamma Eta” Chapter at Olympic College of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society (PTK).  I was required to type documentations and record notes of discussions during officer meetings.  At the following meeting I passed the documents back to the officers and we approved the written minutes I recorded.  I also sent written notification letters by mail to the college students who met the requirements in order to be inducted in the honor society.

Oral

As a student I know the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) where I am able to communicate with people who are deaf.  It is a fascinating way to communicate to other people, because it teaches you how to use your other senses.  There is your eye sight to see facial expressions, which can show a lot of emotion.  Second, touch is another sense in order to feel whether something is rough, hard, squishy (like a sponge), soft, or harsh, etc…

I was on a panel of guess speakers that spoke about disabilities of higher education.  I felt proud to be an example talking about my disability and hopefully showing other people with disabilities that they can continue on and further their education even after High School.  If anything else I like to inspire others, too.
