Computing and Telecommunications
Services provides network connectivity to both students and faculty/staff
members on
campus. Our network is comprised of over 2500 nodes (or network connected
devices) mainly running on ethernet connections. Beyond
the basics of our network, our network is divided into two seperate
areas for both service and support. The academic side of our network
is serviced and supported by this department and its staff. The residential
side (ResNet) of the network is also serviced by this department,
but support for the residents is conducted through the Student Help
Desk.
ResNet is a service
we offer to residents of Pacific Lutheran University. Students can
access our ethernet network from connections directly in their residence
hall rooms. This service gives residents access to all the university's
online resources, the internet, e-mail, and newsgroups. Support and
assistance with residential networking is conducted through the Student
Help Desk. Further information
on Residential Networking (ResNet) can be found through their web
site, located here.
The Student Help Desk supports and assists residents with academically oriented network support. Assistance with computer configuration, network troubleshooting, and internet applications is available to residents over the phone (x7525). Assistance with Microsoft Office and the previously mentioned applications is also available in person within the Haley Information Center in the library. The Student Help Desk and Haley Center hours for the current semester are located here.
