Brief Biography

Dr. Leitz is the Associate Dean and an Associate Professor in the School of Education.  During her eleven years Paula has taught courses in the special education, graduate and undergraduate, and Alternative Routes programs.  In addition, she works each semester with undergraduate student teachers and with interns from the Alternative Routes Program. She has presented papers at the state, national, and international level, and most recently co-presented a paper with faculty from the University of Namibia at the ’05 Boleswana Conference in Windhoek, Namibia. Her commitment to the local community is demonstrated by her involvement in a “Grow Your Own Teacher” Project with the Highline School District and Highline Community College.  She also assists local districts in developing cohort programs that allow teachers to add endorsements in special education.

In addition to her professional responsibilities at PLU, Dr. Leitz serves as a consulting editor for the Journal of the International Associate of Special Education (IASE), and as a member of the board of the Namibian Educational Foundation (NAME), and as a member of the board for Project Teach at Green River Community College.
