FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS: Periodical indexes and abstracts provide the most efficient subject access to journals and periodicals.
Abstracts in Anthropology, 1983- (ref.GN1.A15) Gives indexing and abstracting on journals in the four areas of anthropology.
EBSCOhost (via PLU Homepage; from off-campus use your epass) Provides full text for more than 1,300 arts & humanities, academic, social sciences, general science, education and multicultural journals, magazines, and newspapers. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for nearly 3,000 titles.
JSTOR (via PLU Homepage; from off-campus use your epass) An archival database with 117 core scholarly starting with the very first issues, many of which date from the 1800s and some even to the 1600s. JSTOR provides the full text (in PDF format) of all journal content. You can retrieve specific articles, browse individual journals, or search by topic. As this is an archival service, current issues (usually the latest 3 to 5 years) are NOT available.
MLA (via PLU Homepage; from off-campus use your epass) Modern Language Association's index to international journals and books on literature, languages, linguistics, folklore, from 1963 to present. No book reviews!
PAIS International (via PLU Homepage) Indexes and abstracts international publications of all kinds in the social sciences and public policy, from the mid-1970s to present. Requires PLU ePass username and password.
ProQuest (via PLU Homepage; from off-campus use your epass) Another full-text database. Includes many anthropology journals. It also gives access to the New York Times full text back to 1851.
LOCATING PERIODICALS/JOURNALS: Periodicals are arranged according to the Library of Congress classification system. Use Journals at PLU to identify the call number of the journal you need. Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor. Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are interfiled with the books in the main collection on the second and third floors. Journals at PLU also gives you access to the full-text journals we have online.
Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)(via PLU Library Website) publishes a wide range of scholarship (1991+) on international affairs. Includes some full-text journals, books, and policy reports. Also has excellent information on individual countries.
