For this project you will have to find out as much information as you can about your company and its marketing plan.  Below are listed some of the different sources you will want to use.  Start with the reference sources that contain basic business information and then move on to more specific information.  Remember—you probably not find a company’s marketing strategy spelled our for you in great detail.  That is proprietary information.

BOOKS: Our computerized catalog, provides access to the materials in our library.  Use the Library of Congress Subject Headings to identify the best subject headings for your topic.  Some topics that might be of interest:

Marketing Management
Market surveys
Industrial statistics -- United States
Marketing
Marketing research
Relationship marketing

You can also search by the name of the company:  Budweiser, Nike, etc.

FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS:  Periodical indexes provide the most efficient subject access to journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Indexes relevant to your topic include:

Search by name of company and such words as “marketing”, “products”, “image”, etc

Business Source Premier (via EBSCO) This business database contains 2,804 full text scholarly journals and business periodicals covering such areas as: management, ethics, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. It also offers country economic reports. More than 200 of the journals have PDF full text back to 1965 or the first issue published.

Datamonitor Business Profiles (via Business Source Premier) Contains substantive reports on many companies.  Reports include major competitors and SWOT analysis.

JSTOR An archival database with 117 core scholarly journals in the arts, social sciences, sciences and 7 general science journals starting with the very first issues, many of which date from the 1800s and some even to the 1600s. JSTOR provides the full text (in PDF format) of all journal content. You can retrieve specific articles, browse individual journals, or search by topic. As this is an archival service, current issues (usually the latest 3 to 5 years) are NOT available. Off-campus access requires PLU ePass username and password.

Lexis/Nexis (via library website)  Provides access to a range of news, business, & industry information. It is particularly strong in its news coverage, featuring mostly full-text articles from newspapers around the world.  One source that might be useful for this assignment is PR Newswire.  This is the source of PR put out by companies.

ProQuest (via Library Website)Provides access to several newspapers including the Wall Street Journal back to 1889.

LOCATING PERIODICALS/JOURNALS:  Use Journals at PLU to obtain the call number of the journal you need.  Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor.  Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are on the second and  third floors, shelved with the books.  Journals at PLU also gives you information about any full-text  journals we own.
