FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS:  Periodical indexes provide the most efficient subject access to journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Indexes relevant to your topic include:

Business & Industry (via PLU Library Website) Indexes leading trade magazines, newsletter, general business press, and international business dailies. Offers important facts, figures and key events dealing with public and private companies, industries, products and markets for all manufacturing and service industries at an international level. From 1994 to present. Requires PLU ePass username and password.

Business Source Premier (via EBSCO) This business database contains 2,804 full text scholarly journals and business periodicals covering such areas as: management, ethics, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. It also offers country economic reports. More than 200 of the journals have PDF full text back to 1965 or the first issue published.

Company Information (via Lexis/Nexis) Provides access to a range of news and business information.

EBSCO (via PLU Library Website) An index of about 4,500 journals, magazines, and newspapers with 3,600 titles in full text.  It covers a wide range of topics.

ProQuest (via Library Website) Provides access to several newspapers including the Wall Street Journal back to 1889.

Wilson Business Abstracts (via PLU Library Website) Indexes leading English-language business periodicals.
 
LOCATING PERIODICALS/JOURNALS  Use Journals at PLU to obtain the call number of the journal you need.  Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor.  Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are on the second and third floors, shelved with the books. Journals at PLU  also gives you the location of any full text journals we have online.

REFERENCE BOOKS:

Industry Norms And Key Business Ratios (ref.HF5681.R25I5)  Arranged by SIC code, this work includes financial data and important ratios from an aggregate number of establishments within an industry. Examination of this information establishes present and future norms from which a venture's performance can be judged.

International Bibliography Of Business History (ref.HF1008.G595x 1997) This book "aims to list the best work in business history, written mainly in book form." The bibliography is arranged by broad industry. There is a company name index in the back (the numbers refer to entry numbers, not page numbers). Each entry includes an abstract.

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)  (ref.HF1041.5.N674 1997 & via
http://www.census.gov/pub/epcd/www/naics.html)replaces the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system.  NAICS is the first-ever North American industry classification system. The system was developed by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to provide comparable statistics across the three countries.

Rand McNally Commercial Atlas & Marketing Guide (ref.G1019.R22) Covering maps for each state in the U. S.  Marketing data includes population, income, sales data for counties, basic trading areas and MSAs as well as number of households, per capita income, effective buying index, retail sales, population (past, present, and future) for MSAs, counties, and metro areas.

RMA Annual Statement Studies (ref.HF5681.B2R61)  The source of comparative financial data derived directly from more than 150,000 statements of commercial bank borrowers and prospects.

Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys (ref.HC106.6.S74)  Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys are comprehensive overviews of 52 major U.S. industries. These reports cover industry trends, developments and forecasts, major players and market share data, key ratios and statistics, comparative company analysis, general industry operations and other information.

Standard Industrial Classification Manual (SIC) (ref HF1042.S73 1987 & via http://www.osha.gov/oshstats/sicser.html) ) Defines industries in accordance with the composition and structure of the economy and covers the entire field of economic activities.

Survey Of Buying Power And Media Markets (ref.HC110.C6S85) An annual survey published by the periodical “Sales & Marketing Management”, this provides demographic and economic estimates by county, MSA, and TV markets, along with a buying power index.

U.S. Industry & Trade Outlook (ref.HC101.U54) ) An industry-by-industry overview of the U.S. economy.

Value Line Investment Survey (At Reference Desk)  A weekly publication, but it takes 3 months to cycle through the full list of stocks covered. The main document reviews one firm per page (over 100 per week), with a description of the business, a chart showing the historical stock performance, tables showing key financial data, plus a written commentary about the prospects of the firm. They cover over 1700 stocks in their normal edition, and over 5,000 in extended coverage offered at higher prices. The weekly document also includes short notes on important developments in covered stocks. A separate booklet updates summary ratings and fundamental information on all of the 1700 stocks each week.

Annual Stockholder Reports (http://buck.com/cgi-bin/arcgi.exe) The online version of Buckmaster's Fortune 500 annual reports.  Not available off campus.

WorldScope (via PLU Library Website)Information available is derived from corporate annual and 10K reports, disclosure statements, newspapers, and wire services. Each record includes a description of the business, selected financials, key ratios, and officers.
 
 

INTERNET
 
Do not depend on the Internet for the majority of your information.  The information put out by a company is going to be biased in their favor!  You will find the most information in reference materials and journal articles.
