FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS:
Periodical indexes provide the most efficient subject access to journals, magazines, and newspapers. Indexes relevant to your topic include:
Child Development Abstracts & Bibliography (1939+; ref HQ750.A1.C47) Abstracts from professional periodicals and book reviews related to the growth and development of children.
EBSCOhost (via PLU Library Homepage) An abstracting and indexing tool that also provides some full-text articles.
Education Index (1929-1997; ref Z5813.E23 and via PLU Library Homepage) Indexes selected scholarly/professional journals covering most areas of education, including methods and problems, as well as broader societal conditions that effect education.
ERIC (via EBSCOhost) A combination of two print sources: Resources in Education and Current Index to Journals in Education. ERIC provides indexing for scholarly and professional journals plus ERIC documents. ERIC documents include research, project and technical reports, curriculum guides, and more. PLU has a comprehensive collection of ERIC microfiche beginning with 1991 and selected fiche for earlier years.
E*Subscribe (via PLU Library Website) Offers ERIC documents in full text (. pdf file format) from 1996 to the present. Use the Express Search option to search by known ED (ERIC document) number. When searching for information on education and related topics in journals and documents, search ERIC (see listing above) and follow the links to EDRS (E*Subscribe) for the full text. Off-campus access requires PLU ePass username and password
Psychological Abstracts (via the PLU Library Homepage) A comprehensive abstracting publication covering professional or scholarly journals in all areas of psychology and related fields including educational psychology, counseling, etc.
Thesaurus of ERIC Descriptors (ref
Z695.1.E3.T49 1995) A guide to the subject headings (descriptors) used
in ERIC.
| LOCATING PERIODICALS/JOURNALS: Periodicals are arranged according to the Library of Congress classification system. Use Journals at PLU to identify the call number of the journal you need. Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor. Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are interfiled with the books in the main collection on the second and third floors. Journals at PLU also gives you access to the full-text journals we have online. |
