FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS: Periodical indexes provide the most efficient subject access to journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Indexes relevant to your topic include: 
 
EBSCOhost (via PLU network. To access from off-campus you need to use your epass) An abstracting and indexing tool that also provides some full-text articles.  

Education Index  (1929-1983; ref Z5813.E23 and via PLU Library Website)
Indexes selected scholarly/professional journals covering most areas of education, including methods and problems, as well as broader societal conditions that effect education.
 
ERIC (via EBSCOhost) Indexes and abstracts articles, books, theses, conference proceedings, and unpublished papers (ERIC documents) in education, 1967 to present. Some full text is available for selected journals when searching simultaneously with the Academic Search Premier database. Links are also given to the full text of ERIC documents available from E*Subscribe (see listing below) for documents from 1996 to the present. Off campus access requires PLU ePass username and password.
 
E*Subscribe (EDRS - ERIC Document Reproduction Service) Offers ERIC documents in full text (.pdf file format) from 1996 to the present. Use the Express Search option to search by known ED (ERIC document) number. When searching for information on education and related topics in journals and documents, search ERIC (see listing above) and follow the links to EDRS (E*Subscribe) for the full text. Off campus access requires PLU ePass username and password.
 
ProQuest (via PLU Library Website) A family of databases that include some full-text sources.
 
 
Use Journals at PLU  to obtain the call number of the journal you need.  Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor.  Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are on the second and third floors, shelved with the books.  Journals at PLU also identifies full-text journals available online.

Digest of Education Statistics (L112.A35 2001) Contains information on a variety of subjects within the field of education statistics, including the number of schools and colleges, enrollments, teachers, graduates, educational attainment, finances, Federal funds for education, libraries, international education, and research and development.

Dissertation Abstracts International
(via PLU Library Homepage) Compilation of abstracts of doctoral dissertations submitted by over 450 cooperating universities in the U.S. and Canada.  It can be searched by keyword, subject, author, etc.
 
Education: a guide to reference and information sources (ref. LB15.O57x 2000) An annotated bibliography of sources that might be useful for your research.
 
Encyclopedia of American Education (ref.LB17.U54 1996) A four-volume set containing short articles on a variety of educational topics.
 
Encyclopedia of Educational Research (ref.LB15.E48 1992) Critical interpretations of reported research on most aspects of education, each with an extensive bibliography.  Updated annually by Review of Educational Research (L11.R35)
 
International Encyclopedia of Education (ref.LB15.I569 1994) A multi-volume set containing lengthy articles on all aspects of education.
