FINDING BOOKS: Because this is a topic that has been widely documented, you will find a wealth of information in our library.  Start with QUEST, our computerized catalog, which provides access to the materials in our library.  Use the Library of Congress Subject Headings (large red books near QUEST) to identify the best subject headings for your topic. You will be most successful using specific headings.  Subject headings relevant to your topic include:

Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) -- Causes
Antisemitism – Germany
Holocaust (Christian theology
Genocide -- History -- 20th century
World War, 1939-1945 -- Personal narratives
Righteous Gentiles in the Holocaust

FINDING ARTICLES IN PERIODICALS/JOURNALS: Periodical indexes provide the most efficient subject access to journals, magazines, and newspapers.  Indexes relevant to your topic include:

A general index that covers many popular magazines.  Would be useful to find contemporary articles on the Holocaust

New York Times (AN2.N4) & Times (AN4.T5)
PLU owns these newspapers on microfilm for hundreds of years.  You might want to pull copies from the time and read the news as it was being reported.

LOCATING PERIODICALS/JOURNALS:  Periodicals are arranged according to the Library of Congress classification system.  Use Journals at PLU  (http://www.library.plu.edu/journals/) to identify the call number of the journal you need.  Current issues of journals are shelved on the first floor.  Older issues (bound volumes and microfilm) are interfiled with the books in the main collection on the second and third floors.

INTERNET

The Internet should not be the first place you go to search but it can  contain some helpful things.  There are web sites for the different Holocaust museums and some primary documents are online.  It would be useful to start by looking at our print sources, finding the names of possible documents, and then looking for them online.  The PLU Library does have a web page dedicated to Holocaust studies (http://www.plu.edu/~libr/web/holocaust.html) that links to many good sites.
