J-Term

J-Term Meals

J-Term is a source of much confusion for first-year students. If you have any questions at all, call the LuteCard Office at the Campus Concierge's Desk at 253-535-7411, or e-mail us!

On-Campus for J-Term

If you are on campus for J-Term, you must have a meal plan just like Fall and Spring Semesters. If you haven't signed up for a J-Term meal plan yet, you can do it here online.

Off-Campus for J-Term

If you live on campus fall semester you'll have an active J-Term housing assignment until you cancel it.  Even though you are not billed for J-Term Housing, you still need to cancel your housing. If you have an active J-Term housing assignment you'll be billed for a meal plan.  By canceling your housing,  we mean let the Residential Life Office (at the November Housing Fair, or by emailing RLIF or in writing to RLO) know that you're going to be gone. You will not need to move out of your room for the month (assuming you're returning in Spring).

J-Term Abroad

If you're on campus more than seven days (total) during J-Term:
A lot of the time J-Term classes are on campus before and after they are abroad. In that case, tell Residential Life the times you will be here. If you haven't done it already, sign up for a meal plan. (If you have signed up for a meal plan, you should see the charge on your December bill. If you're not sure, call or stop by the Campus Concierge Desk at 253-535-7411.) Don't worry, you can change your J-Term meal plan until January 15, 2007.

Be certain that you have actually registered for your J-Term class. It might seem like a no-brainer, but sometimes people don't. It's important because we credit based on a roster of all PLU students registered in study abroad classes. The professors give us the dates the class will be off campus. You will not be charged for the days you are gone because of your program, but you will be charged for the remaining days. As always there will be no refunds for unused meals for these days.

If you're on Campus less than seven days (total) during J-Term:
You need to cancel your J-Term housing with Residential Life. You MUST cancel your J-Term housing with Residential Life.  Your stuff stays in your room and you can be on campus the few days before and after your class, but RLO will need to know you'll be gone. They will pass along the information and we will automatically cancel your J-Term meal plan. If you need meals for the few days you are here, go to the Campus Concierge Desk and tell them you want to sign up for a meal plan for a week but you are going abroad.

Are you not returning to campus with your class?
(for instance, you're going straight home rather that coming back to campus with your class for the last week of J-Term) notify the LuteCard Office in writing that you will not be here. The automatic credit is only for the period the class is gone, so we'll need to do the extra adjustment to your account.

If you are leaving because of a PLU sponsored event and not an official PLU class, (like a ski meet) be sure your coach/advisor has submitted a list to:the LuteCard Office

The list must include all the Names AND PLU ID # (lists without ID will not be accepted) of the group, along with the days they will not be on campus.

Highlights to Remember

Even though you are not charged for J-Term Housing, if you won't be on campus, you still need to CANCEL YOUR J-TERM HOUSING.

Anyone with an active housing assignment will be charged for J-Term meals and it is not refundable. (In fact, if you don't have a J-Term meal plan and you haven't canceled your housing, you'll be charged $360.00 for Meal Plan #1.)

Your meal plan WILL NOT be canceled if you have an active housing assignment.

Canceling your housing will automatically cancel your meal plan.

Notify the Residential Life Office before the last day of Fall finals of any change in your plans.
