This extended professional conversation engages staff from Blackwell’s Book Services (Portland, Oregon), librarians, faculty, and staff from the libraries of Puget Sound Academic Independent Libraries (PSAIL), and a representative of The University of Washington Press.  Through a series of informal presentations and subsequent question-and-answer session and discussion, we anticipate a wide-ranging and inter-related exploration of the following major themes:

*Book Users, Their Behavior Patterns and Expectations*

Changes in user behavior patterns and expectations of the printed book.  Technological influences, developments, and trends, and their impact on the printed book world.

*The Book Publishing Marketplace*

Acquisition, production, publishing, marketing, and distribution in the contemporary printed book trade.  Transition from print to digital and the implications for both formats.  New models of marketing and bookselling.

*The Intermediate Vendor in the Printed Book Market*

Technological influences, developments, and trends, and their impact on the printed book world.  New models of marketing and bookselling.

*Academic Library Budgets, Collection Development Trends, and  Acquisitions Practices*

Current and near-future state of the academic library, its budgets, its collection development practices, and its commitment to printed books.

The program will be webcast and available simultaneously to PSAIL libraries’ staff who are unable to be present at PLU.  The webcast will be archived by PLU and can be accessed by interested parties in the future.  The formal program will be followed by lunch involving all the participants:
