WHO ARE THE PARTICIPANTS?
Independent, motivated, adults from seventeen different states. Among them, they represent
a variety of professions, including in education, law, banking, nursing, theater, journalism, advertizing, etc.
Their common denominator is a love of reading, a commitment to the process, and an open curiosity.
"The overall spirit of the residency—and the entire program—continue to help me grow as a writer
and a person. My expectations are exceeded left and right."—Summer 2007 Participant

Summer Residency Photos

Campus
"The
structure of this MFA program is ideal. Participants have the
opportunity to develop their own writing
while getting exposure to some
of the best writers and teachers available."

Informal Discussion with Ann Pancake
"Excellent faculty, lots of positive
energy, a great exposure to new writers, new literature (my reading
list
just grew by the dozens), new writing techniques, and even a
little chance to do new writing."
"Overall,
I feel like I've been given the
gift of new tools, new perspectives
on how to look at my work and that
of others with more clarity."

Barbecue Break
"Bottom line—I couldn't be happier."

Mid-week Jazz Festival
"This
residency—compressed time—has provided me with a time out of time that
has allowed me
to immerse myself in language, contemporaries, the writing world.
Excellent."

Participants and Faculty listen to Albert
Goldbarth
"I am
impressed with the caliber, commitment, and generosity of the
faculty. Their willingness
to engage with us in and out of the
classroom made this experience unlike any other I've had."

R&R
"Past excellent, past superhuman, past legendary—whatever that is."

Gathering for Morning Talk
"You have achieved balance between mutual
support and self-reliance—it's unusual, and exactly
right.
I hope eventually to bring that kind of balance to my own
teaching."

"I appreciated being taken so seriously and working with such skilled teachers and participants."
