School of Nursing

Accreditation

The Pacific Lutheran University School of Nursing is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission.

Accreditation of the baccalaureate program in the School of Nursing was initially granted by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) in 1965. In 1993, the Graduate Program was granted initial accreditation by the NLNAC. The School of Nursing received eight-year continuing accreditation for all undergraduate and graduate nursing programs in 1999. Accreditation through NLNAC expired in 2007, and the decision was made not to seek continuing accreditation through them, due to costs associated with carrying two accreditations.

In 2003 the School of Nursing applied for initial accreditation through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). As a voluntary, self-regulatory process, CCNE accreditation supports and encourages continuing self-assessment by nursing education programs and the continuing growth and improvement of collegiate professional education. The PLU School of Nursing undergraduate and graduate programs received ten-year accreditation with CCNE in 2003.
