December 2007 Alternative Spring Break Trips 2008 Alternative Spring Break Trips 2008!
Spring Break is often thought of as a time to relax at home or on the beach, leaving PLU far behind for one glorious week. Many of our students, though, recognize Spring Break as a time when they can be devoted to a greater cause. This year is no different!
The Alternative Spring Break Trip is an opportunity for our students to work and learn in our own backyard or travel great distances. The PLU community will have the chance to experience homelessness in the Tacoma area, relying on shelters and churches for lodging and meals. Others will be involved in day trips to help restore Clover Creek and other local environmental sites. A small group of students will trek to Holden Village where they will have a chance to prepare for the summer months (and still find time to snowshoe). Finally, several from the PLU community will work with Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Each of these trips create a different opportunity for students and staff to serve and learn. We believe that these students will grow from their experiences—truly embracing PLU’s Mission statement, “PLU seeks to empower students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care - for other people, for their communities and for the earth.”
