December 2007 Campus Safety The Campus Safety Department at PLU makes a solid and strong commitment to watch over and provide a safe learning environment for your son, daughter and even you, when you come to visit us here at PLU. There have been some new and exciting additions this fall, so we wanted to update you on those as well as the current services we provide to members of the PLU community.
Campus Safety at PLU employs approximately seventy student staff members and ten professional staff members. We started this school year with the addition of three new professional positions to our staff. These new positions include an Assistant Director, a Professional Safety Officer and a Campus Safety Assistant. These positions will be utilized to enhance our ability to keep PLU and its students, staff, faculty and visitors as safe as possible by providing features such as the following :
· A walking escort/driving shuttle service to all members of the PLU community, whether it be on the PLU campus or within a designated perimeter around the PLU campus 24/7, 365.
· After additions made this summer, we have over 35 cameras watching over the PLU parking lots and those numbers will continue to increase through the rest of this calendar year.
· We just recently added a Hybrid Toyota Prius to our fleet as a way to strengthen one of our missions to be “friends of the earth”.
· A contract partnership with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in order for us to utilize whatever resources the Sheriff’s Department may be able to offer to aid us in investigating, identifying, assessing and managing any potential crime issues or threats to the PLU community.
· PLU utilizes the services of 20 off duty deputies who work on and around our campus, from Mondays through Saturdays, in monitoring and responding to any issues of concern that may arise.
Thank you for supporting your son or daughter’s choice to attend PLU and for your continued support. GO LUTES!
