Introduction to the PLU Student Code of Conduct

At PLU, we are proud of our students! We assume that each student who enters the university possesses an earnest purpose; the ability to exercise mature judgment; the ability to act in a responsible manner; a well-developed concept of, and commitment to honor, morality and integrity; and a respect for the law and the rights of others.

The PLU Student Code of Conduct exists to safeguard the welfare of our educational community. Therefore, most policies fall under one or more of the following topics: living-learning community, safety, and legal issues. The Code of Conduct contains several policies that help ensure that students can learn to the best of their ability (i.e., Disruption of University Community and Academic Integrity). PLU also protects the safety and well-being of our community members (i.e., Concern for Self & Others and University Violence Prevention) and upholds local, state and federal laws (i.e., Alcoholic Beverages and Illegal Drugs and Narcotics).

The Student Conduct System at PLU is part of the university's commitment to holistic student development. It is educational in nature; it is not a legal process. Within the Conduct System we hope to assist students in developing a personal set of values and ethics; managing emotions; making decisions and following through on commitments; becoming independent; recognizing interdependence; and accepting the consequences of personal actions and decisions.

The 2007-2008 Student Code of Conduct and Procedures can be found at http://www.plu.edu/print/handbook/. Please contact Allison Stephens, Student Conduct Coordinator, in the Student Involvement & Leadership Office if you have questions or concerns about the Student Code of Conduct or the Procedures. We are looking forward to a year filled with growth and learning!
