FERPA

Federal Educational Rights & Privacy Act (1974)

Pacific Lutheran University has adopted a policy to protect the privacy of education records.  The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, popularly known as the "Buckley Amendment" and carrying the acronym "FERPA", governs the university's collection, retention and dissemination of information about students.

This act also establishes the rights of parents and currently enrolled, eligible students to inspect and review their education records; and provides guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through informal and formal hearings.  Parents and currently enrolled, eligible students will be notified of their FERPA rights annually by publication in the Student Handbook.  Outlined in the Student Handbook, the full  FERPA policy presents the entire score of restrictions and requirements for authorizations by which PLU abodes.
