On
PLU ventures all over the country for this coming Spring Break! After
last year’s amazing Spring Break trip to help with Hurricane Katrina
relief, this year’s Spring Break service learning opportunities have
expanded to include border immersion, the Gandhi Institute for
Nonviolence, and a Habitat for Humanity home build.
While some students live, work and serve on the Yakima Indian
Reservation, others will be immersed in a global village experience,
learning how to tend gardens and livestock, buy supplies from an
international market, and cook meals as if they were in a specific
culture at the Heifer International Ranch.
Outdoor Recreation will take students to Holden Village, right here in
Washington. These Lutes will do various project at the village and
enjoy the snow! The PLU Volunteer Center will take a group of students
to the streets of Seattle for an “Urban Plunge.” They will experience
the city as a homeless person during the day and stay in local churches
at night.
Trips range in location from Perryville, Arkansas, El Paso, Texas
to right here in Tacoma. Depending on travel and airfare, trips range
in cost from $25 to $800.
