The university is barely open for the 2007-2008 academic year and we’re already talking about sending students "away." On September 19th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the University Center will be filled with PLU semester study away program directors, PLU students who have returned to campus representing our own programs (in China, Mexico, Norway, Trinidad and Tobago), and leaders of 2008 January-term courses where space is available. Representatives of approved study away program providers with information about tons of programs in over 60 different countries will also be present. Encourage your student to follow the globe balloons to the fair and be prepared to find a study away program that meets their academic needs and interests.
Currently, nearly 40 percent of PLU graduates study off campus; in PLU 2010 (the university strategic plan), our goal is to raise that number to 50 percent. With good planning, every student should be able to build at least one off campus study experience into their degree program. Financial aid applies to all approved study away programs, making study abroad affordable; if you can budget to be at PLU, you can budget to study away (its affordable; its essential).
We encourage you to check out PLU’s many exciting academic study away opportunities outlined on the Wang Center webpage. You’ll also find information we think useful to parents in the Resources section of the website.
