On May 4-5 the PLU Board of Regents met for its third and final meeting of the 2006-2007 academic year. One highlight of the meeting was the annual luncheon with Who’s Who student recipients and Regency Advancement Award faculty recipients, held on Saturday. Presentations by faculty member Ann Auman, featuring her research, and junior Troy Andrade, explaining life-changing experiences of a PLU education, were features of the program.
Business conducted during the meeting included the authorization to sign the construction contract for the renovation of Tingelstad Hall. This summer, the 1967 residence hall will be fitted with new windows, sprinkler system, heaters, and furnishings, and will boast remodeled bathrooms. This project is in a series of residence hall renovations.
An exciting new master’s degree in Conflict Analysis and Collaborate Problem Solving was approved. The program also allows for a modified program leading to a certificate. The program builds on the strengths of communication, political science, business, and international education.
The board heard about progress on the new Garfield Commons slated to open this summer, the University Center renovation well underway, and the progress on the new KPLU building. Students are particularly excited about the PLU bookstore, Garfield Book Company, as the cornerstone of the Garfield Commons located at Pacific Avenue and Garfield Street. Students and staff anxiously await the newly designed 1970 University Center, as building occupants are scattered about campus until mid August when the move back begins. The Center will have ample space for student activities and many new dining options.
Outgoing ASPLU president Anne Spilman '07 presented her final remarks to the board. They were received with great enthusiasm.
