About
40 percent of PLU graduates study off campus, and the number continues to
grow. What can you do to support your student in contemplating program
options and preparing to leave? Consider these tips and resources:
Dream big
There are hundreds of short and long term study abroad programs
sponsored by PLU. Starting with a J-term off-campus program in the U.S.
or around the globe can be an excellent beginning for students. Check
out PLU's many exciting alternatives in the Online Study Away Catalog.
Plan early
First year students and sophomores benefit by meeting with a study abroad adviser in the Wang Center
and their academic adviser to consider what study abroad locations and
courses will be the best match for their academic and personal goals.
Get organized
Preparing to study internationally, especially for a semester or a
year, means making decisions and completing paperwork. It's all worth
it! To become familiar with some of PLU's policies and processes, go to
the Online Travel Guide and Before You Go.
Pacific Lutheran University has a wonderful and long tradition of
welcoming newcomers to our community and sending out adventurers to all
parts of the world. We learn from all of them. People who are new to
PLU, as well as those who go out and return to our campus with fresh
perspectives.
In many ways, at PLU we are all sojourners. In fact, you will often
hear the term used around campus. A sojourner is someone who lives in a
particular place for a prolonged period of time, someone who is
exploring and developing an understanding of other people and other
cultures, someone on a journey of discovery. That’s the PLU experience. WANG CENTER »
