Faculty Affairs Committee Meeting

October 6, 2005

Present: A. Leon-Guerrero, R. McKenney, D. Harney, R. Kaufman, A. Batten

Announcements:

1. FAC will not meet on October 20. Instead we will meet on October 27th, at 5 pm, to discuss faculty development with the Associate Provost, C. Ferguson.
2. We will hear the various committee reports at the next meeting.
3. Teri Phillips extended an invitation to FAC to help with the Christmas luncheon.

Business:

1. The committee met with Sheri Tonn regarding the overall university budget and how faculty salaries and benefits fit within it. The committee also discussed the upcoming visit to PLU of a financial consultant who will consult with the university regarding financial modeling and salaries. FAC requested a copy of the list of materials being provided to the consultant, and to hear what the consultant advises.
2. Minutes from September 15 were unanimously approved.
3. Diane shared materials from previous FAC members regarding the need for a Task Force of Faculty and Staff to examine a comprehensive salary plan. Diane will draft a memo requesting this Task Force be formed and send it to FAC members for approval, then send it on to the appropriate offices.
