Laura Polcyn and Provost Jim Pence joined the meeting to review the Fall Conference and plan for the keynote speaker for the September 2005 conference.

Laura shared that the staff felt included in Tom Brown’s morning presentation (Building campus collaboration in support of student achievement and success) at the 2004 conference.

FAC members urged the representatives of the President’s/Provost’s offices to invite a speaker as quickly as possible for the 2005 conference in order to facilitate conference planning.  Provost Pence suggested that Lee Schulman (President of the Carnegie Foundation) would be a good choice.  Tony Evans concurred.  It was suggested that he speak on “what does it mean to be a community.”

Another possible speaker would be Lee Knefellcamp who could discuss efforts to focus on student intersections with cognitive and affective development through both curricular and co-curricular programs.

Marilyn Newcomer-Culp forwarded the name of a possible speaker on diversity.

The committee examined potential strategies in an effort to clarify FAC role and process in any upcoming restructuring.  Co-chairs Tamara Williams and Greg Johnson will convey our concerns to the Provost.

Respectfully submitted,

Marilyn Newcomer-Culp
