The memo from FAC detailing our position on academic restructuring was delivered to Provost Pence on Thursday, September 30. At the Faculty Executive Committee meeting on Friday, October 1, he indicated a desire to meet with us to discuss this issue. He will be invited to a meeting in the near future.
The proposed comprehensive salary study and plan were discussed. We centered on three issues: what does FAC have to contribute; what would be our role in relation to the proposed study committee; and what would be our role with the immediate issue of the 2005-2006 salary pool?
We feel that our primary contributions to this committee would be a review of discussions held by this committee (history) and the data generated by Mei Zhu and updated by Kevin Terada. In addition, we felt we should have input into the work of the committee.
FAC committee members felt we should be consulted on the membership of the study committee, have a representative on the committee, and serve in a consulting role.
2005-2006 salary
To facilitate the work of the study committee – developing a long-term plan – FAC members feel it is important that we maintain our role of advising the allocation of the salary pool for the upcoming academic year.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane M. Harney
