The minutes 10.18 were approved with a revision to reflect our discussion of Kate Grieshaber’s discussion about salary policy with Ed Inch (Dean of SOTA).

Although his written response is not complete, Jim Pence previewed the main points of his response to the FAC memo regarding academic restructuring. He discussed his four main points:

• To which organizational features does academic restructuring refer and what is the relationship between academic administration and faculty governance?
• What problems exist with the current academic structure?
• What is his proposal for a new structure and how to administer it?
• What are the roles and responsibilities of the involved parties, the processes involved and the timelines for decisions?

We were told the memo would be sent out prior to our next meeting and decided to postpone any discussion until we had all read the document.

The committee clarified our position regarding the establishment of a committee to study and recommend a comprehensive salary pool.

Pence was asked when FAC would know the salary pool for 05-06. He indicated that Shari Tonn had been asked initially to model 3, 4,and 5%. In addition, he requested she develop 6 and 8% models. The figures should be available in early December and recommendations should be made prior to the January Board of Trustees meeting.

It was decided to add a question about increases for part-time positions to our list of questions for the deans.
