There were no minutes or committee reports.

There was a brief discussion of reports from Deans regarding salary.  Most FAC members had meetings scheduled prior to the 11.08.04 FAC meeting.  This will be a primary topic for that meeting.

The committee discussed the reestablishing of an AAUP chapter on campus.  The key questions are: why were references to AAUP removed from the 6th edition of the Faculty Handbook; and, what, if any, role should FAC play in the move to reestablish.  While it was agreed that much of the AAUP agenda connects with the role of FAC, there was some disagreement as to our role in current efforts. The question of the historic relationship between FAC and AAUP was also raised.  Greg Johnson agreed to talk with Dennis Martin (and/or Dick Jobst and Doug Oakman) about the current efforts and report back to FAC.  It was suggested that the Governance Committee be contacted to explain the change in the Faculty Handbook.

Jim Pence dropped off copies of his reply to the FAC memo regarding academic restructuring.  A full discussion of his response is scheduled for the 11.15.04 meeting.

Respectfully submitted,

Diane M. Harney
