Keeping it Safe in the Classroom:
Campus Resources and Guidelines for Faculty

Discussants:
  Mark Anderson (Director, Counseling Center), Tony Berger (Director, Campus Safety), Pat Roundy (Dean for Student Academic Success and Director of Academic Advising), Allison Stephens (Associate Director, Student Involvement and Leadership and Student Conduct Coordinator)

Campus professionals will review campus resources and guidelines concerning faculty and student safety in the classroom.  Their workshop presentation will address:
  • What is a faculty member's role as student observer and resource facilitator?
  • How can faculty talk with their students about their safety concerns?
  • What is the first thing a faculty member should do if s/he is concerned about a student's behavior?
  • What PLU policies, procedures and programs do faculty members need to know?

Effective Letter Writing in Support of Tenure and Promotion
Tuesday, April 22nd

This workshop will provide faculty members with techniques for writing effective letters in support of colleagues' candidacy for tenure and promotion.  Rank and Tenure members will describe the type of content they find most useful in their deliberations, as well as issues related to length, style and format.


Grades, IP's, I's, Waitlists, Deadlines and More!

Wednesday, April 30th

Have you been asked to change a student's grade?  What do you do about the students on your waitlist versus those who show up on the first day of class asking to get in?  This workshop will review PLU policies on grade chagnes, grade types ("I" vs. "IP" grades and why students rather have an "IP"), deadlines, registration waitlist issues and more.  Bring your questions and/or student stories about "how things are always done at PLU".
