2. Peace & Justice Studies @ PLU
    Chris Hansvick & Beth Kraig

An open forum/informational session to explain our newly revised proposal for a minor in Peace & Justice Studies @ PLU. This is an opportunity for members of the PLU community to become involved in promoting peace and justice issues on our campus. We will explain how our proposed curriculum fits with the university's Integrative Learning Objectives, PLU 2010, and our mission of "Educating for Lives of Thoughtful Inquiry, Service, Leadership, and Care." We will also be highlighting events and inviting participation at any level of involvement in our program.

Concurrent Sessions 2

1. Connecting Admission & Retention at PLU
    Lynn Hunnicutt & Karl Stumo

This session will begin with an overview of the newly enrolled freshmen and transfer classes for fall 2007. Following this overview, an analysis will be offered regarding the retention of the fall 2006 and fall 2005 freshmen and transfer classes. Analysis will focus on the connection between admission variables (high school GPA, test scores, writing ability), retention and performance at PLU. The session is designed to be interactive, with presentation and discussion throughout.

3. Global Opportunities at PLU
    Neal Sobania

Global Education is a major initiative for PLU, as found in various documents such as PLU 2010 and Dr. Anderson's annual State of the University of Address. Currently, 45% of PLU undergraduates participate in a J-term or semester-long study-away program. Such high numbers demonstrate that we are successful in the global education initiative. This session presents information regarding global opportunities for PLU faculty. Such opportunities include teaching internationally and support for globally-focused research (individual or faculty-student). GEC faculty and Wang Center staff will be on hand to discuss PLU support for global education and to answer questions about how to participate in global education. This session is especially of use for faculty members new to PLU within the past three years.
