Why some courses do not transfer to PLU.

  • I have my AA degree from a community college in the State of Washington. What PLU General University Requirements do I need to satisfy?
You must complete one Religion course from either Line One or Line Two, one four-credit Perspectives on Diversity course (either Cross-Cultural or Alternative Perspectives) and your senior seminar.

If the major is within in the College of Arts and Sciences, you must complete 40 hours of upper-division semester hours and earn a minimum 128 semester hours, which includes PLU and accepted transfer course work) to earn your PLU degree.

  • I have an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree, so why don't I have Junior standing?
PLU does not grant junior standing for any associate degree that is not recognized by the Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA).

If your degree is not part of the Direct Transfer Agreement (typically including Associate of Applied Arts, Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Technical Arts, and Associate of General Studies), you are not guaranteed junior standing at the university. Associate's degrees completed at a technical college or credits from any other institution without regional accreditation are granted recognition on a case-by-case basis.

Students who earn a DTA  Associate of Arts degree from a community college in Washington State are guaranteed junior standing (60 semester hours) upon entrance. We need your final transcript  which will show you received your AA degree.

If your AA degree is from a community college outside of the state of Washington, or if your degree is an Associate in Technical Arts from any community college, junior standing is not guaranteed.

  • The Office of the Registrar evaluated my transcript for general university requirements, but who will evaluate my transcript for my major requirements?
You need to meet with your faculty advisor in your major department and discuss what transfer classes will be accepted toward your major.

  • Why didn't I get credit for my typing class?

PLU awards credit for college-level courses that are equivalent to PLU courses or requirements. Vocational or technical courses such as office technology, fashion, or career development, although valuable, are not considered transferable because there is no equivalent course work at PLU.

  • Why did I get only 64 hours? I completed many more than that at my community college.
PLU awards a maximum of 64 semester hours for all work completed at a two-year college.

For work completed at a four-year institution, the maximum is 96 semester hours.

PLU will accept a maximum of 96 transferable semester hours in total, which could include a combination of credit hours completed at community colleges and four-year institutions.

  • My GPA from my previous school doesn't show up on my PLU transcript. Is this a mistake?
Transfer credits count toward the university's requirements for graduation but are not included in the hours determining the cumulative PLU GPA listed on the PLU transcript.

  • What is the lowest transferable grade that PLU will accept from other colleges or universities?
The minimum transfer grade PLU will accept is a C- or 1.5 quality grade points.
