Graduation Honors

Graduation Honors

PLU awards Graduation Honors to those graduating students who qualify under the policies listed below.  Honors are read when a student crosses the stage for Commencement, are listed in the Commencement Bulletin and are printed on a the final transcript and diploma.  Please note that honors are not awarded at the Master's level.

Honors Policy as of September 2007

*The policy detailed below is effective starting September 2007 and will be applied to all students graduating as of December 2007.

"Graduation honors are determined by the cumulative grade point average of all PLU coursework (defined as courses taught by PLU faculty for PLU).  Students must complete a minimum of 64 semester hours at PLU to be eligible for graduation honors.  Study Away courses at a PLU-approved program count toward the 64-hour minimum, but do not count toward graduation honors unless the courses are taught by PLU faculty."

NOTE:  Therefore a student's GPA, as seen in Banner Web, will accurately reflect the GPA from which honors are determined as long as the student has 64 or more semester hours from PLU.

When are Graduation Honors calculated?

Honors are calculated twice for all graduation candidates...

The first calculation is for honors in the graduation ceremony.  These honors only take into account coursework through the previous term, January Term for Spring Commencement and Summer Term for Fall Commencement.  Honors for the graduation ceremony are not final honors and may change once final grades are in.
The second calculation is for final honors as listed on the PLU transcript and diploma.  Final honors include all final coursework, through a candidate's final term.

PLU Graduation Honors Cord

Candidates receiving graduation honors at commencement wear the PLU Graduation Honors Cord (a singel black, gold and white cord).
