Note: If you have a new computer from the manufacturer, you probably
are already set to connect. However, please read through these
steps to ensure that you are ready to proceed.
Follow the directions bundled with your Ethernet Adapter for
installation of your adapter. The majority of installations are
easily completed by you, the end user; however, the Student Help Desk
will be happy to help you.
*Please consider that some computer warranties are invalidated if an uncertified party opens the unit. Please see your computer systems documentation to determine the extent of your computer’s warranty and liability in performing an Ethernet upgrade.
· For a desktop computer, expect the process of installing the card and software to take about 30 minutes.
· For a laptop, installation should take about 15 minutes.
· If you computer came with an Ethernet adapter, this step has already been done for you.
Configuring Network Control Panels (Mac OS 7.5x - 9.2x)
1. Click the Apple Menu. Select Control Panels, then Apple Talk.
2. Select the “Ethernet” or “Alternative Ethernet” option from the Connect via pop-up menu.
3. Close the window. Save the settings when prompted.
4. Select the Apple Menu, then Control Panel, and then TCP/IP.
5. Select the Edit menu.
6. Select User Mode.
7. Select Basic and click on OK.
8. From the Connect via pop-up menu select “Ethernet”.
9. From the Configure pop-up menu select “Automatically”.
10. Close the window. Save the settings when prompted. Proceed to the “Registering your Computer” page.
Configuring Network Settings (Mac OS X)
1. Click the Apple Menu and select System Preferences.
2. Select the “Network” option at the top of the window.
3. Click on the TCP/IP tab (if it isn’t already selected) and select “Configure: Using DHCP”.
4. Click “Apply Now” and proceed to “Registering your Computer”.
