We
think you’ll be pleased to know that your son or daughter is moving
from one caring environment to another. Our trained staff are
happy to answer your questions as your children transition to their new
home.
Roommate Conflicts
Your son or daughter should first talk with his or her Resident
Assistant (RA) about roommate issues. RAs are trained to respond to
conflict and may be able to mediate the conflict. If not, the RA will
certainly refer the situation on to his or her supervisor, a Resident
Director (RD). The RD is most often a parent's first contact for
questions about roommate concerns.
Room or Residence Hall Changes
Resident Directors approve and coordinate all room changes within the
same building. If your son or daughter wants to move between residence
halls, he/she needs to work through Residential Life. Room and/or hall
changes are made based upon priority points based upon age, class status, number of years in a given hall
and total number of years living on campus. Changes are made at semester
only. If your student has a
special need that warrants accommodations, he/she should
contact Resident Life for more information regarding special needs
housing.
Student Conduct
The Student Conduct Coordinator maintains all records with regard to
violations of PLU policy. The Federal Educational Rights and Privacy
Act (FERPA) outlines the release of student records and may require us
to notify your student that information about him/her has been shared
with you. In many cases, your student will need to approve the release
of his/her records.
Facilities and Maintenance
Students should go first to their RA to report
maintenance concerns. Once reported, the RA can submit a service
request. Resident Directors monitor the maintenance needs of their
halls. A call to your student's RD may
help to clarify the status of a project or damage repair. The
Operations Manager supervises the overall maintenance of the
halls and may be reached in the Residential Life Office at (253-535-7200).
