Remember The Small Things

The small things can make a big difference in any relationship.  Here are some ideas you and your roommate can do together, or things you can do to uplift your roommate.  Be creative and make it fun to live together.

  • Clean the whole room.
  • Go out to lunch.
  • Buy a latte.
  • Send an email greeting card.
  • Go to a movie or rent one.
  • Take a walk.
  • Say please and thank you.
  • Remember his/her birthday.
  • Offer help on a project.
  • Set a New Year’s resolution together.
  • Get an ice cream cone.
  • Exercise together.
  • Give some alone time in the room.
  • Host a wing get together.
  • Take a bus to Seattle.
  • Find a quote or a poem and copy it for them.
  • Make dinner together.
  • Send a thoughtful voicemail.
  • Bake cookies.
  • Listen.

Two People, One Room

At times living in a small space will challenge even the most compatible roommates.  It’s OK to want some time apart.
Here are some ideas to help you.

  • Study in the lounge or library.
  • Study in an academic building.
  • Study at a coffee shop.
  • Listen to music on the lawn.
  • Go home for a weekend.
  • Go on a road trip with friends.
  • Go for a drive to a park or beach.
  • Visit a friend.
  • Visit a hall staff person.
  • Go on a day trip to Seattle.
