PLU Sakai Workshops


We've offered numerous Sakai workshops for PLU faculty and students, and we plan on continuing them during summer and fall 2007. Let us know your specific goals and we'll do our best to customize workshops to meet your needs. Register for workshops online via the Sakai Workshop Registration Form.

SAKAI 101

Getting Started with Sakai


(2 Hrs)
Description: Use the Sakai learning management system to quickly setup a course web site. Hands-on activities will include developing a syllabus, adding announcements, creating discussion groups, posting Office documents, and exploring other functions.

Goals:
  • Gain a general overview of Sakai tools
  • Develop hands-on competencies for most frequently used tools
  • Provide resources for self-paced learning
  • Identify sources for help and support
Competencies:
  • Adjust My Workspace preferences and profile
  • Use Site Info to enable tools and manage users
  • Add/edit Syllabus items
  • Add and revise various types of Resources
  • Add and revise Announcements
  • Send course email and view Email Archive
  • Add events to Schedule
  • Create and grade Assignments
  • Understand Digital Dropbox functionality

Using Sakai Project Workspaces


(~1-2 Hrs)
Description: Learn to use communication and collaboration tools of Sakai for use with student workgroups, committees, departments, and other collaborating groups. Covers use of announcements, calendar, discussion board, virtual chat, digital dropbox, and group resource sharing.

Sakai Collaboration Tools


(2 Hrs)
Description: Use the Sakai learning management system to facilitate communication and collaboration among students or workgroups. This workshop will focus on hands-on activities with the following tools: Message Center, Email Archives, Discussion Board, Chat, Drop Box, and Wiki.

  • Gain a overview of Sakai communication/collaboration tools
  • Develop hands-on competencies for most frequently used tools
  • Understand pedagogical applications for these tools

What's New in Sakai 2.3?


(1 Hr)
Description: Sakai version 2.3 provides several new tools as well as improvements in functionality. This overview will provide a quick overview and tour of changes in the new Sakai release.

Getting Started with Podcasting


(1 Hr)
Description: Interested in finding out what it takes to integrate podcasts/vodcasts into your courses? This session will provide an overview of tools and processes for creating podcasts and distributing them via the Sakai system.
