Student Involvement and Leadership

Developing Leaders:

In 2002 the Division of Student Life introduced two special awards aimed at recognizing undergraduates for their leadership in our community. We are pleased to continue this tradition of leadership recognition at PLU by asking for your help in identifying the continuing students who have gone above and beyond to serve in our community.

Nominating a Student for Leader of Distinction

Who to nominate?

1. Be affiliated with a recognized student organization or university unit;
2. Have an identifiable leadership role attained by election, appointment, hiring, etc.;
3. Be a full time undergraduate student;
4. Be expected to enroll at PLU for the next academic year; and
5. Be in good academic and disciplinary standing.

How to nominate?

1. The position(s) of leadership held by the nominee and his/her organizational affiliation(s);
2. A description of the leadership skills (goal setting, delegation, recognition, collaboration, etc.) demonstrated by the nominee and how s/he uses these skills to benefit the PLU community;
3. A description of leadership attributes (care for others, initiative, consensus seeking, etc) the nominee possesses, and ways in which these characteristics support the success of his/her organization(s); and
4. An outline of the criterion you used to evaluate this student.

When to nominate?

How will the sudent be honored?

Students selected as Leaders of Distinction will be honored at the Celebration of Leadership by certificate as well as a visual display of their picture and nomination.  From this group 2-3 students will be selected for a leadership development voucher in the amount of $500 to be used in the year ahead to further their leadership training and skills.
