School of the Arts and Communication

A message from the Dean

Welcome to the virtual presence of PLU's School of the Arts and Communication, more affectionately known as SOAC. I'm glad you discovered us and hope you find these pages informative as well as enticing.

I'm convinced that my job is one of the best in the university because our school is alive with creative and talented students, faculty, and staff.

As you explore our site, you will see that SOAC is composed of three departments: art, communication & theatre, and music. Although structurally separate, faculty and students from all three departments often work together creating innovative and exciting "stuff."

Each year brings new surprises and this one is no different. The big news this year is the planning for the renovation of our mainstage theatre, Eastvold Auditorium. We are working with NBBJ architects on the renovation and , most exciting, the addition of a new black box theatre for classes and performances.

Watch for updates on our site as well as new information on other exciting projects and community outreach programs. I also encourage you to visit our calendar to see what other happenings are on the horizon.

As we say in our mission statement:
The School encourages all of its members to pursue their artistic and scholarly work in an environment that challenges complacency, nurtures personal growth, and maintains a strong culture of collegial integrity.

Once again, welcome to SOAC.

Dr. Edward Inch
Dean
