Summer 2008 NEW INFORMATION PENDING

Advanced Placement Institute Summer 2008 (new info pending)
PLU offers ten graduate-level classes for beginning or experienced teachers of Advanced Placement® courses. These courses include American Government, Biology, Calculus, English Literature, English Language Composition, English Vertical Teams, and U.S. History. The 2006 fee for this course is $725.00 and includes tuition for two semester hours of graduate level credit and many teaching materials. Due to the high price of textbooks, the tuition for English Vertical Team is $750.00. The dates for this year's institute are July 17-21, 2006. Continuing Education for Educators: (new info pending)

Pacific Lutheran University offers an exciting array of continuing education options for educators that allow teachers to earn clock hours while they develop as professionals. Continuing education opportunities during the summer include: Workshops and seminars addressing topics such as "Teaching with Multiple Intelligences," "Empowering Educators," and "Cross Curriculum Teaching." Fruit Festivals
peachA summer exclusive, PLU's fruit festivals are held once a month in Red Square. Students, faculty, family, and friends enjoy fresh fruit, raspberry ice cream, and lively entertainment.raspberry The Offices of Summer Sessions, Conferences & Events, and Dining Services are pleased to co-sponsor the three festivals that celebrate a variety of summer fruit harvests. Food is free with a valid LuteCard, although food may be purchased for $2.50.  All fruit festivals are from 11:30 am - 1 pm.

Jazz Under the Star Concerts - the 10th Anniversary


Summer is the perfect time for concerts and other performances outside on Red Square or in the Mary Baker Russell (MBR) Amphitheater.

Don't miss JAZZ UNDER THE STARS, casual Thursday evening gatherings in the MBR amphitheater. Begins Thursday, July 10 and goes for every Thursday for six weeks. On July 8, the 10 year celebration will take place at the Museum of Glass with two headliners.

KPLU Summer Activities

PLU is home to one of National Public Radio's gems, KPLU 88.5FM. Recognized for its programming excellence, KPLU is one of the nation's leading public radio stations offering regular jazz shows alongside NPR's regular coverage of national and international news. KPLU also offers its own unique coverage of northwest events and jazz. KPLU again offers, as a growing summer tradition, the Jazz & Blues Cruise Series on Sunday mornings in Seattle, Washington. RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

PLU offers a broad variety of recreational opportunities for summer students. Exceptional facilities are available for most popular sports and pastimes! Free use of the Names Fitness Center, Olson Auditorium and the Swimming Pool is available when presenting your LuteCard. Reservation of racquetball/squash courts is made by calling (253) 535-7365. Schedules for use of all recreational facilities are available in the School of Physical Education office in Olson Auditorium.

Swimming Pool offers a swimming area, diving pool, sunbathing area, locker and dressing rooms. Swim lessons are available for ages 4 through adult. Call (253) 535-7370. Click here to get more information about the swimming pool from Campus Conferences & Events.

Olson Auditorium is a multipurpose facility featuring a hardwood gymnasium floor and an Astroturf fieldhouse. Activities include basketball, volleyball, badminton, handball, racquetball, and squash. University Golf Course is a 2,770 yard, nine-hole, par 35 layout with a reduced fee schedule for students. Call (253) 535-7393 or visit their website.

Off-Campus Recreation
Numerous recreational opportunities exist close to the campus. Spanaway Park, located by Lake Spanaway, two miles south of campus, features canoe, rowboat and paddle boat rentals in addition to swimming, horseshoes, picnic facilities, golf and fishing. The public Spanaway Golf Course is a beautiful championship course with well-kept fairways, greens and traps. Sprinker Recreation Center, also located two miles south of campus, has excellent facilities for tennis, track and field, softball, baseball, basketball, broom hockey, racquetball, and an ice skating arena.
