Step 1: Who Are You?

If you are new to PLU and haven't taken courses with us before, then you'll need to ultimately make your final registration over the phone or in person at the Office of Student Services.

New students will register through Student Services.

Non-matriculated and non-degree seeking students will register through the Summer Sessions Program. Contact Susan Johnson at (253) 838-8628.

Continuing Education students register through the respective departments.

If you are already a PLU student, you may register online with BannerWeb at http://banweb.plu.edu, unless you are in an overload situation then you must register through the Office of Student Services.

Step 2: What Courses Will You Take?

The Summer Session website will provide you with regularly updated list of summer courses on the course descriptions at: http://www.plu.edu/~summer/course-descriptions

Step 3: Are There Exceptions To Your Case?

  • Independent Study:
Independent study, cooperative education, and studio projects require an Independent Study Card. You will need the signature of the course instructor and the department chair or dean. Return the form to the Registrar's Office no later than the last day to add classes for the term.
  • Auditing A Course:
Auditing a course means to attend a course but to receive no credit. You will be billed for the course. Have your instructor initial an Add/Drop/Withdraw Form, and return the form to Student Services Center.
  • Courses Requiring Approval:
Some courses require the approval of the instructor, chair, or dean in order to take the course. Have that person initial an Add/Drop/Withdraw Form, and return the form to Student Services Center.
  • Course Load Exception:
Registering for more than 15 credits per summer semester requires at least a 3.00 grade point average or the consent of the Provost. Pick up a Course Overload Form from the Student Services Center or download the form.  Return the form to the Office of Student Services in Admin 104.
  • Thesis Courses:
At present, the policy regarding thesis and research projects states that completed projects must be turned in to your department prior to submission to the Office of the Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies. They are then reviewed by the University Archivist.  Check with your instructor for a deadline date.
  • Holds:
Holds are placed on student accounts for different reasons and prevent a student from registering, recieving official copies of transcripts or diplomas, adding/dropping a course, and many other things. For more information about holds, visit the PLU Course Catalog. Information about holds may be viewed by scrolling roughly half-way down the page.

Step 4: The Ways To Register

The Student Service Center will contact students through email to remind students to check BannerWeb for their registration date. Rather than a single date at which the entire university student body may register, PLU staggers registration dates for different students by giving preference to those students with more credits to register earlier.

Students newly accepted to PLU must register for courses through over the phone. Download the Registration Form from the Summer Sessions Site at http://www.plu.edu/~summer.

Non-Matriculated and non-degree seeking students should download the Summer Session Registration form from this website by clicking here.   Registration for non-matriculated and non-degree seeking students occurs in May.

Have the CRN (Course Registration Number) handy for each course in which you'd like to be registered. The CRN's are listed along with course title and information on our Summer Course Description website. You may call the Office of Summer Sessions to register at 253-535-8628 or 1-800-756-1563.

Continuing students at PLU can easily register for their courses using BannerWeb, PLU's online web service that controls academic details, grades, student employment, and course registration. The web address for BannerWeb is: http://banweb.plu.edu

Services Available To Students:

  • Waitlisting: If you want to register for a course that has already reached maximum capacity, consider waitlisting. You may not sign up for waitlisting on BannerWeb. You'll need to fill our the Waitlist Form which is available outside the Student Services Center office in the Adminstration Building. Students are ranked in waitlisting based on who first files for waitlisting.
  • Final Course Grades: Grades are available within 10 days of being submitted by a course's instructor. You may view your final grades on BannerWeb.
  • Transcripts: You may request either an official ($5.00 for each) or unofficial (free) transcript. Forms are available outside the Student Service Center office in the Administration Building. Your personal signature is required, so only hand delivered, mailed, or faxed forms will be accepted. The office takes cash, check, or either MasterCard or VISA credit cards as payment.  Click here for the transcript request form.

Graduation & Commencement

Students who plan to graduate should fill out an Application for Graduation form. An early deadline is, in part, due to the careful measures taken to maintain academic integrity. The form is available online and from the Student Service Center in the Administration Building, Room 110.
