  • Severe Weather Shelter Program: A shelter to aid the homeless with a place to stay in the instance of harsh weather conditions.

Citizens for a Healthy Bay

Opportunities:
  • Gog-le-hi-te Garbage Grab: Each Earth Day weekend volunteers gather to clean up the Gog-le-hi-te Wetland in Tacoma’s tide flats.
  • Tide flats tree planting: Plant on and refurbish the Tacoma tide flats.
  • Working Boats: During the last weekend of September during Maritime Festival each year.
  • Bay Days: Annual environmental information fair for the community.

Organize presentations, seminars, and discussion groups addressing personal, regional and global topics.

Nature Interpreters

The Tacoma Nature Center would like volunteer "nature interpreters" to pass on information about plant life, wildlife, and conservation efforts to school groups, daycare groups, and other visitors to the center. This opportunity takes place once or twice a week, Monday through Friday (9-noon or 1-3pm), March through May.

Volunteer half a day a month to conduct water monitoring in a stream in Tacoma.
