Improving Care Through the End of Life: Volunteers are assigned to help reach out to patient and family, making contact at least once a month and alert nurses when community resources need to be coordinated.

From Me to You: Tacoma Urban League, Inc.

  • Distribute risk reduction information to Community Networks
  • Peer Educator: Educate the community about the risks of HIV/AIDS in various settings.
  • Program Development: designing and implementing change to the “From Me To You” program.
  • Outreach Worker: Conduct outreach activities in Pierce County in shelters, and other identified sites.

Hospice opportunities

There are several hospice opportunities for volunteers in the Tacoma area. As a hospice you can: provide respite care, client companionship, provide transportation, provide support to families after experiencing loss, clerical office assistance, building or installing wheelchair ramps, organizing medical bills, running errands, help with light housework and meal preparation, and gardening.

Lutheran Volunteer Corps

1-2 year commitment. Live in a supportive community. Volunteers are placed in seven urban areas in many opportunities that include education, housing, food distribution, and AIDS awareness.

Sea Mar Community Health Center

Volunteer opportunities available in job shadowing physicians, clerical tasks, client-volunteer relationship building, and treatment attendants. Sea Mar offers volunteer opportunities at four sites: Medical Center, Dental Office, Mental Health and Inpatient Treatment Facility.

Unite For Sight Volunteer Abroad Opportunities

Unite For Sight is a nonprofit organization that empowers communities worldwide to improve eye health and eliminate preventable blindness. Volunteers receive hands-on clinical experience while assisting doctors in remote, rural villages. Volunteers learn about international health and eye care, learn clinical skills while working with patients and doctors.
