International Internships

Whether your international sojourn began before starting at PLU or has yet to begin, an international internship can be an exciting, challenging and very rewarding way to acquire professional knowledge, new perspectives, hands on experience, cross-cultural communication skills, and much more.

PLU offers internship opportunities to selected locations around the globe. It is an opportunity for students to apply their on-campus curriculum to an international internship experience.

International Internship credit may be applied to your major (with permission from that department) or you can earn up to 12 credits through the Cooperative Education Office: coop 477 International Work Experience. Often students can enroll in Cooperative Education at the same time as their specific departments' Internship course. Cooperative Education credits are based on the value of the internship, the learning opportunities imbedded in the experience in addition to the number of hours and length of employment.

International Internships can be completed concurrently with a study abroad program (depending on the study abroad format and location of study) or independently. You can find your own internship or PLU will help you. Depending on the International Internship that you choose, PLU can also help you find housing and help you arrange travel as well.

For details on the internship programs that are available, visit the Study Away Catalog.

International Independent Research

The Wang Center offers a wide range of opportunities for students who are interested in going more in-depth with global education at PLU. One option that is available for students who have a significant amount of cross-cultural experience is to complete an international independent research project. The Wang Center gives yearly grants to students who are interested in this opportunity. For more information about the competitive Wang Grants, please visit The Wang Center Grant Programs.

To arrange an independent research project with a PLU faculty member that involves international travel, you are required to be cleared and registered by the Wang Center. In accordance with good practice for study abroad, the Wang Center will provide you with pre-departure information and/or forms related to health and safety.
