Cabaret

May 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 at 8:00pm
May 20, 2007 at 2:00pm

This 1966 Broadway musical hit is set in Berlin from 1929 through 1930 as Adolf Hitler and the Nazis rise to power. Cabaret is based on the novel Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood. Its initial run was produced and directed by Hal Prince and received eight Tony awards. Later, in its film version, it helped make the careers of people like Joel Grey, Bob Fosse, and Liza Minnelli. The story is about the developing relationship between Sally Bowles, a young English girl, Clifford Bradshaw, a poor American writer, and Ernst Ludwig, an attractive Berliner who appears to be in the smuggling business. The action unfolds within the colorful atmosphere of the Kit Kat Club, where many of society's leftovers -- prostitutes, homosexuals, and lower-class Germans -- find a place of welcome and acceptance. Cabaret is one of America's great Golden Age musicals, with a wonderful book and timeless music. Adult situations and some adult language.
