Lute Pride

Athletics and Recreation

PLU has long been known as a sports powerhouse. The football team has won four national titles, and more than 400 Lutes in all sports have been named first-team NCAA All-Americans. Given all this success, the fact that our student-athletes are exactly that – students and athletes – is something of which we are very proud. Those who wear a Lutes jersey know that when they come to PLU, they will not only play on some great teams – they get a great education, too.

But you don’t have to be a varsity athlete to play at PLU. In fact, we encourage students to try something new – it’s part of our belief that the best education includes challenging your mind and body. So, suit up with the varsity teams, learn a new club sport such as ultimate Frisbee or lacrosse, or join up with your friends as part of the Intramural Sports or Outdoor Recreation programs.

Beth Hanna has made a major impact on the volleyball program at PLU.

Killer instincts

During her first year at PLU, outside hitter Beth Hanna made a major impact on the volleyball program – burn marks on the gymnasium floor type impact. Here’s why she will again break the PLU record for kills this season (and why you better get out of the way when she crushes the ball)
