Advice

How is PLU different from other universities?

You know how people call Disneyland “the happiest place on earth?” I think that PLU could compete for the nicest place on earth. Being from Minnesota where our state motto is “Minnesota nice,” I am constantly amazed by the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that PLU has to offer. I think PLU is unique because any student who comes here can find their own niche where they will feel comfortable and connected to this campus. I think the fact that we are a Lutheran University is what inspires this appreciation for the diversity that every student possesses. I love that every student is celebrated for his or her unique gifts and talents on this campus!

What’s one thing that still surprises you about PLU?

When I started my college search, my admission counselor at PLU told me that the faculty and staff would reach out to me as a student and build relationships that would last a lifetime. Being out of school for over two years now, I am still surprised by the reactions that I receive when I encounter former professors on campus. Professors who I haven’t had class with for three or four years still remember my name and the conversations that we had in their classes about my hopes and dreams for the future. My advisor from PLU, Professor Rob Wells, is particularly amazing! When I start to doubt my potential or question the calling for my life, Rob is the one who encourages me to think bigger about my career path and future endeavors.

Name one way that PLU has changed your life.

PLU has forever changed the way in which I see myself and the world around me. PLU has inspired me to think about the calling for my life and how my gifts and talents can be used in a very intentional way to make a difference in my community and on a global scale. PLU helped me to discover my passion for helping others and I know that my career path would be vastly different if I had gone to another university that did not emphasize the importance of finding your vocation. I know that I can be a part of curing the world of aids, ending poverty in developing countries or whatever I set my mind to. PLU has given me the tools to be a servant leader and I am excited to see where my journey will take me next.
